San Siro stripped of hosting the 2027 Champions league final

2027, AC Milan, Inter Milan, San siro, UCL

The famous stadium, home to both Inter and Milan, had originally been selected to host European football’s showpiece event. However, the UEFA Executive Committee decided to suspend the final decision during a meeting in May. This pause was to allow the Italian Football Federation to submit further information on refurbishment plans for the stadium, but with no concrete progress, UEFA has taken action.

In an official statement, UEFA said: “As the Municipality of Milan could not guarantee that the San Siro stadium and the surrounding areas would not be affected by renovation works during the time of the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, it was decided not to award the final to Milan and to reopen the bid process to nominate a suitable venue, with a decision expected in May/June 2025.”

The future of the stadium has been uncertain in recent months, with both Milan clubs rejecting a renovation plan in favor of a complete rebuild in the surrounding area.
